Hangzhou City, China - March 25, 2011
Richard M. Daley, Mayor of Chicago, visited the Electric Vehicle facility of Wanxiang Group during his two-week tour of China. Noting Wanxiang's already deep roots in the Chicago area, he said he would like to see more Chinese companies bring manufacturing to the Windy City.
As part of his tour of the Wanxiang facility, the Mayor was given a ride around the city of Hangzhou in the latest Wanxiang-manufactured electric bus. He marveled at how quiet and comfortable the ride was and said he would like to see electric busses not only in his own downtown, but at O'Hare International Airport as well.
As a part of President Barack Obama's "100,000 Strong" initiative, Wanxiang officials agreed to sponsor a number of Chicago High School students, selected by the City of Chicago, to a Summer internship at Wanxiang Polytechnic in Hangzhou to study Chinese as well as Clean Energy Science.
Wanxiang was pleased to be included on the Mayor's tour of China and singled out as an active member of Chicagoland's economy.
